HWA Students Participate in NYC’s Inaugural Integration Symposium 2026

Last week, six student representatives from HWA International School participated in the National Youth Council’s inaugural “Crossing Cultures, Creating Community” Integration Symposium 2026, accompanied by Grade 10 Homeroom Teacher, Mr John.

The symposium brought together local and international students, young adults and community representatives to exchange perspectives, explore Singapore’s multicultural society and connect with people from different backgrounds.

One of the highlights of the symposium was a panel dialogue featuring Mr Baey Yam Keng and Dr Lim Yiru, Vice Dean of the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). The discussion invited participants to reflect on cultural integration, mutual understanding and the role young people can play in contributing to a connected and inclusive community.

Throughout the day, HWA students participated in interactive discussions, networking activities and cultural experiences. Through these activities, they had opportunities to engage with participants from different backgrounds, share their perspectives and gain a broader understanding of Singapore’s diverse community.

The experience also provided students with opportunities to apply skills beyond the classroom, including communication, intercultural awareness and active participation in community conversations.

We would also like to thank Mr John for accompanying and supporting the students throughout the symposium. His guidance helped students engage with the activities and make the most of this learning experience.

This marked HWA’s first participation in an event of this nature. Beyond the school campus, the symposium offered students an opportunity to encounter different perspectives, learn more about the wider community and reflect on how individuals can contribute positively to the society in which they live.

At HWA, learning extends beyond classroom experiences. Participation in community initiatives such as this provides students with additional opportunities to engage with the world around them, exchange ideas and develop their understanding of different cultures and perspectives.

We look forward to creating more opportunities for our students and teachers to engage with local communities and take part in meaningful learning experiences across Singapore.

Crossing cultures. Creating connections. Growing together as a community.
