As an International School in Singapore committed to nurturing inquiry, creativity, and global awareness, HWA International School recently brought our Visual Arts students on an inspiring learning journey to the Affordable Art Fair Singapore 2025. This meaningful experience enabled students to step beyond the classroom and encounter contemporary art in a dynamic, professional environment—an approach that reflects the core values of an IB World School.
During the visit, students immersed themselves in a wide range of contemporary artworks created by artists from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. This authentic exposure encouraged them to approach the fair as open-minded learners, a key attribute of the IB Learner Profile. By observing how artists communicate ideas through form, material, and concept, students strengthened their ability to interpret meaning, appreciate multiple perspectives, and respond thoughtfully to visual communication.

Throughout the fair, students engaged in reflective discussions about how artworks are curated, presented, and shared with the public. These conversations deepened their understanding of the collaborative roles played by artists, curators, and galleries, highlighting the importance of communication, organisation, and creative decision-making. Such reflection supports the IB aim of developing principled and reflective learners who can analyse the world with curiosity and clarity.
The learning journey also expanded students’ cultural awareness. They observed how artistic expression is shaped by societal issues, historical contexts, and global themes, broadening their understanding of how art interacts with the contemporary world. This aligns with the IB’s mission to cultivate internationally minded learners who value and respect cultural diversity.
In addition, the experience encouraged independent artistic inquiry. Students collected ideas, references, and insights to support their future creative projects, reinforcing the IB emphasis on initiative and self-directed learning. Their exposure to professional artworks strengthened visual literacy and inspired them to connect what they observed with their own artistic development.

The Affordable Art Fair Singapore 2025 became a true “living classroom”—a space where curiosity was nurtured, dialogue was welcomed, and creativity was sparked. Students returned to campus with fresh perspectives, enriched understanding, and a deeper appreciation for the evolving role of contemporary art in society.
At HWA International School, we believe that meaningful learning thrives when students explore real-world contexts, make connections across disciplines, and reflect on their place in the global community. Through experiences like this art fair, our students not only gain knowledge but also develop confidence, empathy, and a lifelong passion for the arts.
