Music Class – Hulusi

It is the vision of HWA International School to integrate Eastern and Western cultures and our mission to develop our students bilingually.  One of the ways to achieve our vision is to encourage appreciation of the global cultures through our music curriculum.

At the start of the year 2021, HWA proudly announced the introduction of the Chinese musical instrument Hulusi (葫芦丝) into our International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary School Years (PYP) music curriculum.

The students were excited to lay their hands on the exquisite traditional instruments when they arrived in January, after some delay in shipment due to the present pandemic situation. Through learning to play traditional folk music on the Hulusi, students of HWA will learn and appreciate the rich Chinese history and culture. This will, in turn, inspire the students to improve their competency in the Chinese language.

The introduction of Hulusi into our IB PYP music curriculum has opened a doorway to a deeper and richer bilingual curriculum and towards our aim of an international school that successfully integrates global cultures.
