Earth Day Activity and Exhibition

On Friday 22 April 2022, HWA International School observed Earth Day 2022 and held her first-ever Exhibition Day.

The theme of the Earth Day 2022 is “Invest in our Planet ”. The School encourages our students to observe Earth Day by practicing at least one simple act of green every day – one way is to turn off the lights and air-conditioners when they are not in use. Lights were kept off in the classrooms during periods 1 and 2 (8:00 am to 9:30 am) while air conditioning was switched off during morning break time (9:30 am – 9:50 am) and lunch time (12:05 am – 12:50 am). Students in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) also wrote a reflection about their observance after watching a video about Earth Day. We hope students will continue to practice one green act every day whether in or out of school, by constantly reflecting on how their everyday actions will impact the Earth.

All students were also involved in the Exhibition Day, setting up booths for their exhibits in the school hall. Students and staff took turns to browse the exhibits and pose questions to the students manning the booths. Exhibits were grade-specific: students from Grades 2 to 5 exhibited their Unit of Inquiry projects, the Grade 6 students presented their PYP Exhibition, the Grades 7 to 9 students showcased their Community Projects, the Grade 10s shared what they did for their Personal Project, and, last but not least, the Grade 11s presented their Theory of Knowledge Exhibition.

The School would like to commend the students for their efforts in putting up the awesome exhibition. Through this event, the students displayed the school value of Excellence when they are committed to deliver the best of their abilities. They also developed the IB Learner Profile attributes of a Knowledgeable and Inquiring Communicator during their projects and presentation. In preparation for this exhibition, students got a chance to practise and develop all the IB Approaches to Learning skills: Communication, Social, Self-management, Research and Thinking skills.

Well done to all!
